Winston-Salem DSA Demands District Attorney and DA

As a prominent organization advocating for social justice and equality, the Winston-Salem DSA (Democratic Socialists of America) is committed to fighting for the protection of essential rights, including abortion rights. With our belief in reproductive freedom, we stand in solidarity with individuals seeking safe and legal access to abortion services.

Our Mission

At Winston-Salem DSA, we firmly believe that women should have autonomy over their own bodies. We are dedicated to ensuring that everyone has equal access to comprehensive reproductive healthcare, which includes safe and legal abortion services without barriers or discrimination.

Our mission is twofold:

  1. Advocating for Legislative Changes: We actively engage in lobbying efforts and public campaigns to push for legislation that protects and expands abortion rights. We work towards fostering an environment where reproductive freedom is respected and upheld.
  2. Changing the Conversation: We strive to educate the public about the importance of abortion rights and combat the stigma associated with it. By providing accurate information and fostering open dialogue, we aim to create a more inclusive and understanding society.

Demands to the District Attorney and DA

The Winston-Salem DSA calls on the district attorney and the DA to take immediate action to defend abortion rights and protect the reproductive healthcare of all individuals. Our demands are as follows:

1. Ensure Accessible and Affordable Abortion Care

We urge the district attorney and the DA to actively support initiatives that remove financial barriers to abortion services. This includes advocating for comprehensive insurance coverage, Medicaid expansion, and affordable options for low-income individuals. It is crucial that access to safe and legal abortions is not dependent on one's economic circumstances.

2. Address Crisis Pregnancy Centers (CPCs)

We call on the district attorney and the DA to investigate and take appropriate legal action against crisis pregnancy centers that engage in deceptive practices. These centers often masquerade as legitimate healthcare providers but instead provide misleading information and coerce individuals into making decisions against their best interests. It is imperative to protect vulnerable individuals from false advertising and manipulation by enforcing strict regulations on CPCs.

3. Protect Clinic Access and Patient Safety

The district attorney and the DA must prioritize the safety and well-being of individuals seeking abortion services. We demand strong enforcement against any acts of intimidation, violence, or harassment directed towards reproductive healthcare providers and patients. By ensuring clinic access without fear of obstruction, we can safeguard the constitutional rights of those seeking abortion care.

4. Expand Comprehensive Sex Education

We ask the district attorney and the DA to advocate for comprehensive sex education in schools. By providing evidence-based information about reproductive health, including contraception and abortion, we can foster a responsible and informed approach to sexual health. This education plays a crucial role in reducing unplanned pregnancies and ensuring that individuals have the knowledge to make informed decisions about their reproductive choices.
